Sagicor USA, a wholly owned subsidary of Sagicor Financial Corporation, was formed in 2004 to spearhead diversification and expansion in the United States. On September 30th, 2005, the company completed its first acquistion with the $58 million purchase of American Founders Life (AFL), providing a US presence as a licensed insurer in 41 states and the District of Columbia, a licensed reinsurer in 45 states and DC and a third party administrator in all 50 states. Following the acquisition, the AM BEST rating company enhanced the financial strength rating of the acquired company, reflecting the change of ownership and confidence in the Sagicor Financial Group performance.

AFL was rebranded to Sagicor Life Insurance Company consistent with the Sagicor Group's global branding strategy and has begun rejuvenating its marketing and distribution platform through the introduction of new products and distribution capabilities. Sagicor USA's President and CEO, Kendrick "Ken" Marshall noted that the United States market is a very important focus for extending the international presence of the Sagicor Group and Sagicor USA will continue to seek out opportunities to add further scale and size to the company's operation.

Sagicor International Management Services

Sagicor International Management Services, Inc. (SIMS) was established in 1996 and is located in Tampa, Florida.  A 100% wholly owned-subsidiary of the Sagicor Life, its primary function is to coordinate Sagicor’s activities regarding acquisitions, mergers, strategic alliances, joint ventures relationships, portfolio evaluation and business development and expansion.

Sagicor International Management Services also provides specialized management services to the Sagicor Group of Companies by providing expertise in group health care, marketing, underwriting and systems.  Products and services include:
